Tempering Our Lives
From the Parish Visitor, Gail Lehmann
With this hot summer weather, it might be easy to lose our tempers. Sometimes this is called “flying off the handle.” This phrase refers to the head of a hammer coming loose from its handle when a carpenter is at work. Several things can happen when this occurs.
First, the hammer becomes useless.
Second, the hammerhead is likely to cause damage as it flies out of control.
Third, the repair of the hammer and the damage takes time.
So it is when we lose our tempers. First, we become ineffective and unproductive. Second, we are likely to cause damage even when we think we don’t. There is almost always emotional damage to the person who is the victim. And lastly, the resulting damage may be very difficult to repair.
Proverbs 15:18 says, “A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel.”
Losing your temper is not the best way to handle conflict in your life.
Keep your temper; nobody else wants it!
Leap of Faith: Memoirs of an Unexpected Life
by Queen Noor
This is the story of a U.S. woman who became the wife and partner to an Arab monarch. It is the story of a mother coming to terms with the
demands the king’s role as a world statesman places on her family’s
private life. Most of all, it is a love story—- the intimate account of a woman who lost her heart to a king and the king’s people.
This is a large print book and on the 2008 United Methodist Reading List, donated by the Clara Swain Circle in Memory of Alice Chase.

Hello friends of Asbury Children's Supper Hour
Asbury's Children's Supper Hour needs an upright freezer (to fit the space we have for it). It can be scratched, any color, used or new or dented but must keep it's inside temperature at zero degrees or below. We have an old one that regularly sneaked up to as much as 4 degrees above zero and that's not good enough. It cannot be
repaired, sits unplugged and empty waiting to be hauled away. We have three other freezers which we keep stocked to the brim but in order to take advantage of overstocked frozen food at the Central Illinois Food Bank and other opportunities we desperately need this fourth upright freezer. We feed our children for as little as $.38 per serving but must take advantage of sales, buying in large quantities and bulk. We trust this need of the ministry will be answered, please be in prayer as we seek a cold solution to our freezer problem.
God bless, Vicki Potter, Director

Senior High Habitat Mission Trip
Date: Aug 2-15, 2008
Our travels this year take us to Laramie, WY. We will be staying at the Trinity Lutheran Church which is right across from the university.
Our project is building one half of a duplex town house---the plan is to frame the first floor outer and inner walls, then add the second floor joists and sub floor. This is followed by the second floor outer and inner walls. There is also landscaping to do at a nearby site, and concrete forms to place at another nearby site, so we may be working in teams on different sites.
We plan to leave Springfield on Saturday, Aug. 2 and drive to Laramie. Sunday will then be a day of rest plus time to acquaint ourselves with the job site and the area. Work days will be Monday through Friday. We will travel to Jackson Hole to do Yellowstone, Jenny Lake, white water rafting and other points of interest.
There has been discussion of a group coming home early due to work, sports and etc. If you will need to come back with this early group, we need to know so that plans can be made.
No experience required --- come get involved
